Our adult standard poodles undergo comprehensive health testing before becoming part of our breeding plans. The test results are registered with 2 databases for animal health testing - OFA (The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) and CHIC (The Canine Health Information Centre).

Tests are:

OFA - Hips

OFA - Eyes

OFA - Thyroid

OFA - Sebacious Adenitis

DNA Testing is also performed to screen for:

Von Willebrand’s Disease - Poodle type 1

Degenerative Myelopathy (DM-SODI-A)

Neonatal Encephalopathy with seizures (NEWS)

Color Gene Testing

Photos of a CHIC certificate showing OFA test results and DNA test results are posted on this page to aid in recognizing the certificates for proper health testing. Whether you are looking for a Standard Poodle, or any other breed of dog, be sure to ask to see the health test results for the parents.

The health test results for any individual dog can be found on the OFA website, using the advanced search option.

Here’s a step by step guide to help you.

Select the group covering the specific dog breed. For Standard Poodles, choose Non-Sporting. Then scroll down to select Poodle. Type in the breeder’s Kennel Name (mine is Coronado), then select “any part of name” and all of the tested dogs of that breeder should come up in successive pages.
